CITY OF KINGMAN COMMUNICATION TO COUNCIL TO: | Honorable Mayor and Common Council | FROM: | Public Works | MEETING DATE: | September 20, 2016 | AGENDA SUBJECT: | Council Direction on Reclaimed Water Injection Well Project |
SUMMARY: A Reclaimed Water Reuse Study was completed last year. Three alternative projects were examined:
- Groundwater Injection Well - Inject 1 MGD of reclaimed water into the Hualapai Aquifer, Preliminary Cost Estimate $1,055,000
- Industrial Park Reuse - Pump Station and 14+ miles of reclaimed distribution lines to Industrial Park, Preliminary Cost Estimate $10,754,000.
- Golf Course/Park/School Reuse - Pump Station and 9+ miles of reclaimed distribution lines to Golf Course, Preliminary Cost Estimate $8,260,000
The study found that groundwater injection had the lowest construction cost and operations and maintenance costs.
Of the two reclaimed water distribution projects, the study found that the Golf Course project had the lower construction costs and the higher capital savings.
All the projects would be beneficial to Kingman's water system and water supply, and are not mutually exclusive. Staff would recommend proceeding with the design of the injection well project. This would allow us to start recharging the aquifer now, while plans and funding for reclaimed water distribution projects are being developed.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is $88,000 budgeted in the Wastewater Projects Fund for design services for this project. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends proceeding with procurement of design services for the Reclaimed Water Injection Well Project. |
